Be Afraid And Do It Anyway
“The truest and most beautiful life never promises to be an easy one. We need to let go of the lie that it was supposed to be.”
-Glennon Doyle
"The quickest way to arrive at your vision is to become the person inside of your vision today, despite current circumstances."
When Taryn Watts, founder of Mind Rebel Academy, first spoke these words, they landed on me like a ton of bricks.
Actually become the person inside that vision? Like now? Ummm.. hell no. That person is "someday me".. not "right now me."
Sometimes I can't even look directly at my vision of someday me.. she seems so far away. Other times I notice glimpses of her already here.
This week a big "someday me" moment has arrived. And it's giving me all the feels.
Today we are starting the recording of The Not Tonight Podcast.. a podcast where we tell women's stories of discovering their authentic selves by doing the work in their own sex lives. And the truth is, I am simultaneously excited and terrified as I take one more step into actually becoming that person.
"Someday me".. the one is my vision. She does shit like that. She starts a podcast.. about sex none the less. She is bold, trusts herself and builds and runs her business guided by her intuition.
She lives with a deep sense of joy and takes intentional steps forward towards creating the life in her vision.
I used to think that she did these things without fear, but now I realize that she does these things despite fear.. because fear is a part of the human experience. There is no way around it.
I tell my kids ALL the time.. be afraid and do it anyway. So today, that's what I'm going to do.
In her book Rising Strong, Brenè Brown describes a practice she started of writing herself permission slips on post-it notes when she notices that she's "doing that thing I do when I'm afraid," as she describes it. "I'm floating above my life, watching it instead of living it."
So today, as I take this next step of becoming, I'm going to give myself permission to be present.. to live in the joy and the excitement rather than letting the fear take over.
My post-it note permission slip says,
"Permission to step into the person inside your vision and
enjoy the ride."
So here I go.. Arriving.
Stay tuned!
